Diamond Phoenix have recently installed a new Pick to Light system, Directpick, at WWMD, which has not only improved efficiency and accuracy but has meant that the system now works faster and the operation has become more streamlined.

WWMD, the leading distributor of magazines to niche and specialist outlets in the UK, awarded Diamond Phoenix with the contract as they could meet the exact requirements that WWMD needed. The existing system was a pick and pack operation with 162 SKU locations across six packing stations but was proving to be too slow and not able to cope with the high volume.

After analysing the existing system, Diamond Phoenix proposed its Directpick, a wireless ‘pick to light’ system, due to its highly flexible functionality. This means the system can be reconfigured between 1 to 8 pick zones at any point to accommodate workload.

Martin Burton, Operation Manager at WWMD comments, “Since the implementation of the system we have noticed a huge benefit, especially where we pack larger titles, and we have now extended the packing bays. We have seen a reduction in overtime on the busy weeks and 50% time saving on a large and busy pack week and a 50% in improvement in accuracy. This has meant that, thanks to the Directpick system, we have increased productivity.”
