dia045EMI is the world's largest music publisher in terms of copyrights owned, controlled or administered, with rights to more than one million musical compositions and offices in 30 countries.

EMI's repertoire is diverse. Numerous pop hits, classical works, and motion picture and theatrical compositions are amongst their collection including: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas; New York, New York; and the rights to the film score of Singing in the Rain and the music in the Wizard of Oz.

Also within EMI's portfolio are the famous record labels: EMI, Chrysalis, Virgin, and Capitol making EMI one of Britain's most successful companies and a great place to work.

EMI manufactures CDs, music cassettes, vinyl records and, since 1998, DVDs. The company's state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, located around the world, produce the millions of CDs sold by EMI every week. EMI also has a global network of distribution centres all responsible for the picking, packing and shipping of daily consignments of music audio and video to retail outlets.

In the UK, Leamington-Spa is the home of EMI's distribution centre from where the company services its retailers situated throughout the UK and Eire. Everyday many thousands of items are dispatched and for the last ten years horizontal carousels manufactured by Diamond Phoenix have been at the heart of this operation.

Within the Leamington distribution centre alone thousands of line items are stocked and handled and each day hundreds of orders from retailers are received and collated. With this volume of items to be distributed, speed and accuracy are obviously critical for the successful and efficient completion of the task.

Diamond Phoenix carousels are the nerve centre for this operation. Leaders in the design and manufacture of state-of-the-art order fulfilment, Diamond Phoenix have supplied technology that is perfect for helping EMI maximise their productivity during this process.

Stored within each of the carousels are CDs of various artists ready for distribution. Computer controlled, the carousels bring the selected item for picking directly to the operator, meaning that each operator can achieve high pick rates with very low error rates.

The use of bar code technology also enables the swift identification of the CDs so that the stock levels can be monitored and the storage position of individual artists quickly located.
